GRANDEE RAY FEATURED IN DEEP MAGAZINE

A Gift For Marketing: Charleston business leader Grandee Ray gets more mileage out of the thoughtful gift than even a fellow Southerner could imagine.

How much horn tooting do you do in your business? While many of us are comfortable starting entrepreneur ventures, we’re often too modest to tell people just how wonderful our products or services are. Word-of-mouth accolades prove crucial in building a business. And no one can spread the word about your business better than you can.

“You need to put your name out there,” urges Grandee Ray, founder of Grand Ideas in Charleston, South Carolina. “Many women are shy about marketing themselves. I think we need to become more comfortable tooting our own horns.”

We may have been taught that modesty is one of the fundamental virtues of Southern womanhood, but Grandee solves that problem by letting another key virtue speak on our behalf: generosity. She encourages her clients to augment traditional advertising by giving targeted gifts that feature their companies’ logos and contact information.

“You want your investment to stick around – not just a 15 second ad on TV or radio,” explains Grandee. “You want something that’s useful and used. Popular items tend to hang around on recipients’ desks for two to three years, and the best part is that they’ll always remember who gave the gifts thanks to logo recognition.”
